Granite in Interior and exterior Design

Granite is one of the most popular building materials. It has been used for thousands of years in both interior and exterior applications. Granite  is used in buildings, bridges, paving, monuments, cladding, memorial headstones and many other exterior projects. Indoors, polished granite is used in kitchen worktops, tiled floors, stair treads, and many other design elements. Granite is a prestige material, used in projects to produce impressions of elegance. Granite now comes in not only a polished finish. Now there are textured finishes ranging from the lighter leathered finish to stippled and flamed finishes that are coarser to the touch. Origin of Granite

Granite is an igneous rock. This means that at one time during its development, it was melted like volcanic lava. Unlike lava, however, this melted rock never reached the surface. It remained trapped inside, where it slowly cooled and crystallized, resulting in a very uniform, speckled stone that ranges in color from blacks and grays to pinks, browns, and reds.

Use of Granite

Polished granite is a very durable stone, much harder than marble, ideal for work surfaces, and relatively maintenance free. Granite has been popularly used for commercial purposes for many years. Granite can often be found on building exteriors, interior walls, and “high-traffic” floors. Granite will withstand almost any element including heat and cold.
