Limestone in Interior and exterior Design

A natural Limestone worktop can completely transform the appearance of a kitchen, used as a worktop it can look light or rustic, whatever your taste. Limestone comes in various shades of white, grey, brown, orange, creme, and yellow. It requires more maintenance than other natural materials but quite durable.

Limestone variations are used at Brighton Granite for worktops, bathrooms and fire hearts.

Origin of limestone

Limestones formed from this type of sediment are biological sedimentary rocks. Their biological origin is often revealed in the rock by the presence of fossils. Some limestones can form by direct precipitation of calcium carbonate from marine or fresh water. Limestones formed this way are chemical sedimentary rocks.

Use of limestone

Limestone often contains variable amounts of silica in the form of chert (chalcedony, flint, jasper, etc.) or siliceous skeletal fragment (sponge spicules, diatoms, radiolarians), and varying amounts of clay, silt and sand (terrestrial detritus) carried in by rivers.
During regional metamorphism that occurs during the mountain building process (orogeny), limestone recrystallizes into marble.
